Here’s some fresh ideas to do this February.
Luckily, being the shortest month means we could be that bit closer to being released from our homes. Fingers crossed! But don’t skip ahead so soon as it doesn’t have to be doom and gloom in February, or all about love and pancakes (not that they’re both a bad thing, by any means), as there’s plenty of events and activities to enjoy. Get February off to a flying start with some of these fun-filled things to do this month, even during lockdown.
1. Grab your coat and head out for a walk locally
It might be cold out but wrap up warm and get yourself outside for a bit of fresh air. You’ll be thankful for it later on and it’s an excuse to have another hot brew when you get in. Even if you stretch your legs for around 20 minutes, it’ll make a change from the same old scenery at home. The city has a range of parks, gardens and woodland areas to stroll around and they say being surrounded by nature allows us to switch off and be more grounded, which is just the trick most of us need right now. Check out these walks near Birmingham. Remember to follow social distancing guidelines.
Fancy making decisions besides what to choose from a takeaway menu? Well, in this online jury game you can weigh in on the evidence, listen to eyewitness statements and decide the verdict as to whether a man is guilty of the crime he’s been accused of. This virtual jury experience brings all the thrills of a court case without having to show up to the real court and instead cosy up on, or be on the edge of, the sofa as you try to decide whether a man goes free or not. Tickets are available here.
Sadly, it still might be a while before cocktail bars, beer gardens and wine bars are open again, so thankfully Borough Wines are bringing some fine wines to your door for you to sample. Learn more about vintages or change up your tipple of choice during lockdown by joining in with these online wine tastings this February. Each session you will explore delicious sustainable wines of different nationalities and varieties, all of which have been responsibly sourced, led by one of Borough Wines’ qualified sommeliers. Book your wine tasting session here.
4. Spruce up your space with a little decorating
Why not start the spring cleaning early? With us all spending more time at home, why not transform your space into a cosy area free of clutter? This doesn’t mean you need to give the walls a lick of paint but instead organise items in terms of priority and hoover up those crumbs on the carpet. You could potentially hang some artwork up to give the place a pop of colour or even invest in some gorgeous candles or lovely houseplants which help to improve the smell and air quality of your home.
Just because we can’t go out doesn’t mean we can’t make Valentine’s Day 2021 special. Stuck for something to watch with your loved one? Well, nothing says romantic quite like a candlelight concert and this year you can watch a livestream of relaxing piano classics in one of the UK’s most stunning settings. You can also add a premium hamper of treats including a bottle of pink Prosecco or luxurious hot chocolate, a red rose and some raspberry and champagne truffles. Plus the hamper includes some mini candles to set the scene for the evening and recreate your own candlelight concert from home. Find your tickets to the Valentine’s candlelight concert here.
Zoom may be your work’s new go-to for meetings, but this video-calling programme can also bring the fun as well. Change up your Zoom calls from sitting down to stretching out with this online disco-themed yoga class. We’re all missing the club at the moment and dancing to some absolute bangers, plus you vowed that 2021 was the year to get into yoga, therefore why not try this disco yoga class from the comfort of your own home? So go on, roll out your mat and turn your living room into a disco by joining in on this hour-long upbeat class. Book an online disco yoga class here.
7. Have a flipping good time making some pancakes
Another day to look to forward to this month is Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, so pop an apron on and get mixing. There are so many recipes out there to make a plate of delicious pancakes, whether you want fluffy American-style, thin crêpes or vegan ones. Plus, the topping options are endless! Or for a low maintenance option, you can always order some from your favourite local restaurant or café for a lovely start to your week.
West End Musical Brunch the UK’s musical theatre themed brunch party is coming to your home this month. You can witness the biggest West End stars perform live along with interactive musical theatre themed games and a Q&A with the stars. So get that brunch prepped, the Prosecco popped and get your household together for an unforgettable Saturday. And feel free to sing your heart out and dance to all the tunes from your living room. Find your tickets to this online West End Musical Brunch party here.
9. Get on your bike and cycle around these nearby parks
If you’re fed up of walking and want to get about a bit further in less time then hop on a bike and get pedalling. The city has some amazing cycle routes, including bicycle lanes in local parks and gardens, which allow you to see some beautiful sights even in the February frost. You can find some of Birmingham’s lake and reservoirs to cycle round here. But please stay local to your home whilst national lockdown restrictions are in place.
Disco and bingo have teamed up this month to make February a little less forlorn and instead more fantastic by hosting an night of disco-themed bingo online. The epic night will involve groovy tunes, singing, dancing and all sorts of madcap fun accompanied by your grandma’s favourite game, but with a twist. Instead of waiting for numbers to be called out, you’re listening out for songs which match those on your bingo card. So give your Friday or Saturday some glam and grab your tickets for the online event here.
Bring the bar to you and party like you’re in New Orleans by getting involved in Southern Comforts’ Mardi Gras celebrations. You’ll receive a party pack with ingredients to make two delicious Southern Passion cocktails as well as a MEATliquor DIY food kit. The two hour experience will run for one night only on February 20 and include bingo, dance challenges quizzes and prizes making it the perfect night-in this month.
