Built back in 1879 to rival London’s finest hotels, The Grand Hotel is already considered one of the finest establishments in Birmingham. Even last year, The Times named it among the best hotels in the UK. So you shouldn’t need much more convincing to visit. But The Grand Hotel has gone ahead anyway with the launch of its new garden terrace this summer.
As of today (June 2), the garden terrace will offer al-fresco drinking, with a bespoke gin and tonic menu created in partnership with Malfy Gin. Made in the Italian town of Moncalieri, All four of Malgy Gin’s signature flavours will be served on the Garden Terrace. Each flavour (Con Limone, Gin Rosa, Con Arancia & Originale) is distilled with a range of unique botanicals including hand-picked Juniper, Italian lemons, pink grapefruits and oranges married with Italian water.
The outdoor space will offer a summer oasis for guests to enjoy and will open 4.30pm – 9pm on Thursday and Fridays, and 12.30pm – 9pm on Saturdays. The Grand Hotel Garden Terrace is also available for event bookings.
“As the hotel enters its third year back open, we are thrilled to have partnered with Malfy Gin to bring something unique and refreshing to our little oasis of greenery in the city centre,” said Charlotte Horler, Hotel Manager at The Grand Hotel Birmingham. “We can’t wait to welcome guests onto the Garden Terrace for after-work drinks, casual gatherings or large events.”
The Grade II* listed building, which attracted the likes of George VI and Charlie Chaplin in its heyday, closed back in 2002. But reopened after 19 years in 2021 after a £50 million refurbishment. Retaining the building’s French Renaissance exterior and Victorian Arts & Crafts features, the restoration also includes a penthouse suite with spectacular views across St Philip’s Cathedral.
The hotel boasts 185 rooms and suites, Madeleine, the hotel’s glamorous cocktail bar where Afternoon Tea is served, and Isaac’s, the New York-inspired brasserie-style restaurant. The Times said that it “offers a contemporary raciness across 185 rooms and a sassy New York deli vibe in its restaurant.” To learn more head here.
