Birmingham has a history of some amazing pizza places. In the area of Edgbaston, however, not so much. That’s recently changed, however, as a brand new pizzeria and bar, Smoke + Ash, has launched on the ever-growing Greenfield Crescent. Joining other popular venues, like the wine bar Loki and the restaurant Chapter.
Smoke + Ash is inspired by the independent pizzerias of Bristol. It serves Neapolitan-style pizzas, quality wines and seasonal twists on classic cocktails. As the brainchild of owners Paul and Clare Collins, it provides a relaxed day-to-evening venue in one of Birmingham’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response to our opening. Our launch day coincided with the Edgbaston artisan market and Christmas lights switch on,” said Clare. “We’ve had some fantastic feedback from a whole host of people, with local residents, students, families and a fair number of Italians enjoying our food and drink.”
The focus is on using top-quality ingredients, as well as serving an extensive drinks range. But they also understand the problems facing many in these trying times. Smoke + Ash will review prices regularly to offer value across all products. They will also work with Birmingham and Midlands-based suppliers, to both reduce food miles and support local businesses. Being a part of the community is of major importance to the duo.
“We want to support local charities and particularly children in Birmingham living with the very real trauma of food poverty,” added Paul. “We aim to help build upon the good work other independents have been doing in Stirchley and Digbeth. The recent Commonwealth Games showed just how good this city can be when we work together and utilise that unique Brummie way of doing things.”
On Sundays, make sure to check-out the Margherita vs Margarita deal, where you can mix and match any two Margherita pizzas or Chilli + Yuzu Margaritas for £16. While they will soon be launching “speedy weekday lunch menu” that introduces smaller pizzettes with side salads as well as Italian panuozzo sandwiches.
Smoke + Ash is open Wednesday 5-10 pm, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 12-10 pm and Sunday 2-7 pm. To follow along with Smoke + Ash’s journey head here.
