Nothing tastes as fresh and juicy as something picked straight from the vine. So you can shove your supermarket scraps, I’m going to pick all my own fruits this summer, and you can too at this farm on the outskirts of Birmingham—grab yourself strawberries, gooseberries, and later in the year, blackcurrants and blackberries.
Since 1971, Manor Farm Fruits has offered a pick-your-own fruit experience in Tamworth, and while it’s far from the only PYO fruit farm in the area (shout out Caldicott’s Nursery in Solihull or Essington Farm in Wolverhampton too), it’s easily the most established and extensive for miles around.
What fruit can I pick?
Right now, you can help yourself to strawberries (£9.50 per kg) and gooseberries (£7.00 per kg), while there is limited availability for raspberries (£11.95 per kg). In late June, you’ll also be able to pick blackcurrants and redcurrants, while early July will bring blackberries to Manor Farm Fruits.
What else is there to do at Manor Farm Fruits?
When you’re done feasting on the fruits of your labour (literally), your little ones are free to explore the children’s play area, which includes a straw bale pyramid, a bouncy castle and an inflatable tractor. There’s also a self-led nature trail that’s full of outdoor adventure, hands-on discovery and the real story of life on the farm.
If that wasn’t enough, keep an eye out for a handful of one-off events happening. Berry Fest (Sunday, June 21) boasts live cooking demos of berry-inspired treats, alongside live music and hands-on activities, and A Summer Soirée in the Flower Field (Saturday, July 11) is basically a big ball among the dahlias.
How much does it cost?
To go and pick your own fruit, it will cost you £3.95 for an adult, and £4.95 for a child (aged 1 to 12)—this doesn’t include the cost of the actual fruit itself (prices above), while one-off events will also cost extra. To learn more about Manor Farm Fruits, head to the website here.
