Arley Arboretum is one of the oldest tree gardens in Britain, dating back to 1855, and is home to over 300 species from across the world. But even knowing all that won’t prepare you for the mesmerising vistas that greet you upon arrival. Awash with stunning scenery that changes with the seasons, everyone, from dendrologists to kids, will love it here.
Home to some of the most stunning gardens found anywhere in the UK, Arley Arboretum and its surrounding gardens cover roughly 45 acres within the 1,600-acre Arley Estate. You will discover a selection of unique and rare tree species on the banks of the River Severn in Worcestershire—including the Paperbark Maple, Monkey Puzzle and Handkerchief Tree.

But the crown jewel of the site has to be the beautifully restored Italian Garden. Inspired by the late 15th-century gardens of Rome and Florence, formal plantings, a grand water fountain, a temple and a dovecote make a peaceful, Lime tree-lined sanctuary from the rest of the Arboretum. We should also give special mention to the magical Magnolia Garden (which really peaks in May).
Elsewhere, you will have to check out Laburnum Arch—Britain’s longest, measuring 65 metres—underplanted with Bluebells and Alliums, it flowers in May and June with bright yellow flowers (so there’s never been a better time to visit!) Afterwards, stop by Garden Tearoom for everything from a cup of coffee or a local beer to a spot of afternoon tea or a ploughman’s lunch.
