We all know Birmingham has some of the best burgers in Britain. But one, in particular, stood out over the rest last year. And now this Birmingham burger joint has made the shortlist for the National Burger Awards 2023.
Flying Cows has been selected for their drool-worthy burgers, alongside 15 other finalists, and will be invited down to London’s Electrowerkz to take part in an epic cook-off on February 22. They will fight popular burger joints such as London’s Bleeker, Glasgow’s El Perro Negro and Bristol’s Squeezed for this year’s crown.
The tasty cook-off will consist of three rounds, where finalists will first be required to cook their burgers in front of the judges. Before creating a technical burger made up of a specific selection of ingredients that will be supplied on the day to be named Burger Chef of the Year. While an additional round will also require finalists to produce a meat-free burger. A panel of judges (who we’re well jel of) will every burger, before deciding who to crown champion on the day.
“Fluffy buns, succulent patties and condiments galore – what’s not to love about the beloved burger?” says Genna Ash-Brown, editor of Dine Out Magazine, which runs the event. “With so many stellar entries flying in for this year’s National Burger Awards, narrowing it down to just 16 finalists really was a painstaking (and hunger inducing!) task. But we got there in the end – and what an exceptional line-up it is, packed with former winners, past competitors and feisty new entrants looking to leave their mark on a revered national stage.”
Since launching in 2011, Flying Cows has become deeply loved by locals for its juicy patties, all served from a burger food truck at Digbeth Dining Club and many other place around the city. The Japanese-inspired Shiitake burger will carry them into the final. And as previous winners of Britain’s Best Street Food Burger in 2017 and 2019, as well as the ITV Food And Drink Award in 2020, we’re sure Flying Cows will more than hold its own.
