Two Birmingham burger businesses have been officially ranked as some of the best in the UK, joining 14 other burger restaurants in the country at the National Burger Awards. Meat Meets Bun and Stripclub Streetfood have been selected for their drool-worthy burgers, and they will be invited down to London to take part in an epic cook-off, which will see popular burger joints such as London’s Bleeker, Burger & Lobster, Dirty Bones and MEATliquor fight for this year’s crown.
The tasty cook-off will consist of three rounds, where finalists will firstly be required to cook their own burger in front of the judges, before creating a technical burger made up from a specific selection of ingredients that will be supplied on the day. An additional round will also require finalists to produce a meat-free burger. A panel of judges (who we’re well jel of) will taste each and every burger, before deciding who to crown champion on the day.
Founded by Birmingham food blogger, The Fat Foodie, Meat Meets Bun first launched as a vendor at Zumhof Biergarten in Spring 2021 before branching out to street food markets and pop-ups around the West Midlands. The Black & Blue burger was selected for the National Burger Awards and consists of an aged beef patty, black pudding crumb, stilton and American cheese, chilli jam, pickle relish, plus black garlic mayo all in a sesame brioche bun.
Meat Meets Bun took to social media posting: “We only went and made it to be a Finalist at @dineoutmagazine @nationalburgerawards 2022 🙌🏼 We’re going with our Black & Blue Burger and we’re absolutely BUZZING about it!
“I know there is going to be a full line up of Heavy Weight Burger Bashers down there on April 20th and we’ll be bringing our A Game that’s for sure 🤜🏼🍔🤛🏼 Will be an honour to share the spotlight with such class!
“To be a Finalist is to be a Winner already in our eyes. Win or lose on the day, we still made it as a Finalist ❤️We’d like to thank everyone that has supported us from the beginning until now and we can’t wait to take you on the rest of our journey 🍔.”
Stripclub Streetfood is also a Brummie street food vendor in with a chance of winning the best burger crown with their Truffle Dip burger- two smashed aged beef patties, double American cheese, mayonnaise, crispy fried onions, pickles, grated Parmesan, steamed seeded brioche bun, beef dripping and truffle gravy. You can find Stripclub Streetfood at Digbeth Dining Club residencies, Taste Collective in Solihull and Factory at FarGo Village in Coventry.
The National Burger Awards will take place on 20 April 2022 in London.
