Birmingham loves its curry houses. It’s a fact that none can deny and part of what makes the city one of the most exciting food destinations in the country. But to shine on the scene, you have to stand out from the crowd. Time and time again, that’s what the Indian restaurant Lasan has done.
At this year’s British Curry Awards (November 28), Lasan won the Best Restaurant in the West Midlands for a record sixth time – winning previously in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Lasan shot to fame in 2010 after winning Best Local Restaurant in the UK on Gordon Ramsey’s The F Word. And in the two decades since launching, founded in 2002, have maintained its reputation.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have won this magnificent award. It’s our sixth win and achieving this on our 20th anniversary really is the cherry on the icing on the cake for our team,” said Jabbar Khan, founder of Lasan.
“Since 2002, Lasan has been captivating the hearts of discerning foodies and celebrities alike, with its exquisite Indian cuisine scooping over 20 prestigious awards and accolades throughout this magical journey. More importantly, we’ve had the privilege of being part of so many heart-warming milestone celebrations, and we’ve witnessed some truly beautiful love stories from our home in the Jewellery Quarter.”
The Indian restaurant is very much haute cuisine, serving seafood moilee and goat biryani. A main will cost you anywhere from £17.95 for a vegan biryani to £28.95 for king prawns in a fenugreek leaf bhuna. But some of our favourites include courgette flower tempura, monkfish johl and the lamb Kashmiri rogan.
The UK’s top curry restaurants are voted for by the British public, with this the 18th annual ceremony of the informally known UK’s Curry Oscars. For a full list of winners see below and to learn more about the British Curry Awards head here.
