Are you and your friends never able to agree on where to eat out? Or are you so indecisive that you never know until you see the food coming out of the kitchen? Sometimes you just want to relax with a craft beer and a live band, while everyone else fusses about their next meal. Well, we have the spot for you with Hockley Social Club.
Self-described as ‘your local neighbourhood hangout’, Hockley Social Club is exactly that. Situated inside a 10,000-square-foot former printing factory, there’s enough space here to fit all your desires. And have all of you and your friends dining under one roof no matter your tastes.
There are usually three permanent kitchens on site, plus a more regularly rotating resident, all cooking up a storm. Some of Birmingham’s best street vendors can be found here. Until recently it was the home of Brummie legend Andy Low ‘n’ Slow. But current staples include the award-winning Thai joint Buddha Belly, Patty Freaks with some of the best burgers in Birmingham and the seriously Instagrammable Urban Cheesecake.
But there are always surprises to be had here. Upcoming kitchens include Melting Wheel Pasta, Cleopatra’s Kitchen, Yardbirds, West Midlands Jerk Centre and more. All showing off the breadth of Birmingham’s street food scene. Don’t worry about getting a drink or somewhere to sit either. Hockley Social Club has three bars to serve over 500 seats.
Of course, Hockley Social Club is more than just a dining hall – there are no school dinner vibes here. It also doubles as an event space, keeping you entertained while you eat. There’s live music every Friday evening, monthly comedy nights too, and on Sundays, you’ll discover Hockley Social Club’s lifestyle market. More recently it sold out a performance from Birmingham Royal Ballet.
There truly is something for everyone at Hockley Social Club, with new surprises popping up every week. It’s going to become your new regular hangout in Birmingham, as once you arrive you’ll never want to leave. If you don’t fancy hanging about, however, you can always pop in and grab a takeaway.
