A castle trip can often be such a deathly serious outing – filled with executions, illness and war. But we’re in desperate need of a laugh after a bleak winter, so thankfully Warwick Castle will lighten the mood with its open-air comedy festival this May. Which sees British comedians cracking jokes at Comedy at the Castle.
After the inaugural edition of the three-day comedy festival in September last year, 13 stars of British comedy are invited to the courtyard. The likes of Simon Amstell, Rory Bremner, and Nina Conti, will grace the stage in front of over 3,000 fans by the riverside medieval heritage site from May 24 to 26, 2024.
Each evening will be hosted and compered by Closeup Comedy’s resident host Freddy Quinne – host of the UK’s number 1 comedy podcast Dead Men Talking, and an online sensation with over 150 million views to his name. You can also expect a selection of award-winning street food from Digbeth Dining Club along with cocktails, craft beer, fizz bars, and host DJs.
“Warwick Castle is delighted to be working in collaboration with Digbeth Dining Club again to host: Comedy at the Castle,” said Liam Bartlett, General Manager at Warwick Castle. “This incredible evening comedy event returns to Warwick Castle following popular demand in 2023 and we are looking forward to welcoming Comedy fans back to the castle this May to enjoy a line-up of much-loved comedy acts.”
Angela Barnes will open the festival on Friday, followed by Janine Harouni and Matt Richardson, before multi-award-winning satirist, Rory Bremner headlines. Saturday night’s lineup features Maisie Adam, Sex Education’s Eshaan Akbar, Spencer Jones and Simon Amstell. The final night of the festival, taking place on the Bank Holiday Sunday, includes Gary Delaney, Matt Bragg, Stephen Bailey and Nina Conti.
“The first year of Comedy at the Castle was a huge success,” said Jack Brabant, Director of Digbeth Dining Club. “Naturally we are very excited to build on that success and bring the people of Warwick and beyond a really special weekend that everyone can enjoy. With each evening we’ve tried to curate the lineup as carefully as possible – so that everyone’s tastes in comedy, food and drinks are covered.”
Comedy at the Castle is presented by Midlands-based comedy promoters Closeup Comedy, Digbeth Dining Club and Warwick Castle. Tickets are priced from £27.50 and are on sale now here.
