Have you ever felt like your dinner-time pasta dish was missing a bit of ice cream? No? Well, have you ever wanted to sprinkle some bacon and add a savoury crunch to your dessert? Again, no? Well, nonetheless, Italian restaurant brand Bella Italia has decided to merge the worlds of dinner and dessert with a brand new creation inspired by one of their best-selling pasta dishes. Introducing – the carbonara sundae.
Yes, you read that right! Bella Italia has taken the cheese-y pasta delight, and come up with a carbonara-inspired ice cream creation. But fret not – the carbonara sundae is perhaps not quite as bizarre as you might be expecting.
The new ice cream offering features Bella Italia’s creamy vanilla gelato that is drizzled with white chocolate sauce and “topped with bacon-flavoured crispies and Oreo biscuit crumbs”. So, instead of tasting like an ice cream topped with pasta sauce, it’s more of an optical illusion]. It sure looks the part, thanks to the white chocolate sauce. And those Oreo biscuit crumbs do look a bit like freshly-ground pepper. But the only savoury addition to the dish is the crispy, bacon-y bits. Which, to be honest, we’re not too mad about. It might well work!
Free ice cream
Bella Italia is giving away 5,000 free ice creams to celebrate the launch of the new pasta-inspired sundae. And no, don’t worry, they’re not only giving away the carbonara sundae. Those claiming the freebies can choose between the carbonara sundae or two scoops of their favourite gelato flavour.
The free ice cream giveaway is running from July 22-28. To dole out the free ice cream, Bella Italia is giving away 5,000 vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis. To get your free ice cream voucher, sign up for the Bella Italia newsletter and keep an eye on your inbox for the promotion. Alternatively, there is also a link to the special offer on Bella Italia’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
So, what do you think? Are you brave enough to try the carbonara sundae?
