Warm weather is on its way, we can only hope, and all the good things that come with it. Yes, we’re talking beaches, BBQs, outdoor dining, holidays, swimming, and wherever else you can think of to cool down. There’s only one thing we can guarantee you, however, and that’s longer days. Birmingham’s first 8pm sunset of the year happening this week.
On Thursday (April 11), the sunset in Birmingham will take place at 8:00pm exactly. That’s the latest the sun has set in over seven months, since August 30 of last year (also 8:00pm). But, rest easy, it won’t be going down this early again for another four months. That’s on August 29, 2024, when sunset’s at 8:01pm.
But there’s no need to be thinking about that yet… We’ve got plenty of glorious days to look forward to, and so many better things to occupy our minds with. A day trip to the flower fields, anyone? On Tuesday, we’ll be getting nearly 14 hours of daylight, but this will rise close to 17 hours during the height of summer.
On the longest day of the year (June 20), the sunset in Birmingham won’t take place until 9.34pm, while sunrise happens at 4.44am. If you’re up that early, you’ll experience 16 hours, 49 minutes and 37 seconds of unadulterated daylight. Of course, what good’s all that sunshine, if you’ve got nothing to do?
Luckily, Birmingham’s summer schedule is already looking chocka. Just some of the big events we can expect include Harborne Carnival, MADE Festival, Centenary Square Summer Series, Mostly Jazz Festival and many more. But if all you want to do this summer is chill in a beer garden, we won’t judge you!
