Just as we start to get comfortable with it being Christmas, the festive period comes to an end. It’s the same every year. But we could have another month of shopping at Christmas markets and exploring festive trails. Luckily there’s still a week left to go. Where to live than in one of the most Christmassy cities in the UK?
The property developer, Berkeley Group, has named Birmingham the third most festive city in the country. Losing out to Liverpool and London, who finished first and second respectively. But that does mean it beat out the likes of York, Edinburgh, Nottingham and, well, every other UK city!
While we already knew Birmingham has one of the country’s best Christmas markets, it’s good to hear the whole the city is embracing the festivities. Whether you’re after a Christmas tree, special festive food or a warm glass of mulled wine, it seems like the whole of Birmingham has gone Christmas mad.
The list was based on vibes alone, however. Berkley Group compiled it based on factors such as: Most Instagrammable, Chances of a White Christmas, Searches for Christmas Markets, Number of Christmas light trails and Searches for “Christmas” in each city. Each category was scored from 1-10 (with 10 being the highest) and added together to get a final Festive Cities Index score. This gave Birmingham a score of 22.5 out of 45, while Liverpool scored 23.5 and London 23.
Birmingham had the second most yearly searches for Christmas markets, after Edinburgh, with 24,000 searches in total. While it is also one of the more likely cities to experience snow on Christmas Day. In the past 62 years, it has snowed 23 times in Birmingham on everyone’s favourite holiday. No wonder it’s one of Britain’s most Christmassy cities.
