Birmingham has no shortage of food halls, brimming with some of the country’s finest street food vendors. But the Second City’s best food hall is also one of its newest—having opened only in February—after winning ‘Best Food Hall’ in the UK at the British Street Food Awards 2026.
Alfred Works, part of independent hospitality business Blend Family, houses 18 independently owned food vendors, serving everything from the viral Birria Ramen (Fuego 1987) to authentic Palestinian flavours (Baity). The Digbeth-based food hall also serves traditional and fusion Asian, Caribbean, and Italian cuisines, and more.

Just six months after opening, the food hall has quickly become a go-to hotspot at The Custard Factory for food, drink and daily events. Alongside the food hall, Blend Family has expanded its offering with the addition of its ‘Alfresco’ sports bar and outdoor dining space, attached to Alfred Works in Birmingham.
The ‘Best Food Hall’ win also continues a remarkable run for Blend Family at the British Street Food Awards, with one of its food halls winning the award for the fifth consecutive year. This includes Sheffield’s Cutlery Works and Cambridge Street Collective, while further Blend Family food halls are in Manchester and London.

Nina, COO of Blend Family, said: “We want to thank everybody who voted for Alfred Works to win Best Food Hall. To be crowned the Best Food Hall in the UK just six months after opening is our biggest achievement yet, and we couldn’t be prouder of what the team and our Food Partners have created in Birmingham.
“This award belongs to our incredible Food Partners and the wider Alfred Works team who have worked super hard to bring this home to Birmingham! But it also belongs to our community and our guests. They are the reason Alfred Works is what it is, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support.

“We’ve always believed that food halls can be about so much more than food. We curate authentic food halls that bring together independent entrepreneurs, global cuisines and cultures, but we also build communities through events, celebrations, workshops and initiatives such as our community kitchens at the Blend Culinary Foundation Cookery School.
“To have a Blend Family food hall recognised by the British Street Food Awards for five consecutive years is a huge honour. It’s a testament to our Food Partners, our teams and the communities around each of our destinations.”
