What is “We Call It Tango”?
It is an ode to tango, its music and its rich cultural tradition. The art form was created by a number of cultural influences, such as African music, European dances and traditional South American songs. Created, directed and choreographed by Agustina Videla and Pablo Destito, directly from Buenos Aires, the show brings the passion and romance of the traditional Argentine tango to some of the biggest cities in the world.
Tango, its music and the show
Developed in the 1880s in the Rio de la Plata Valley, tango is a style of music and partner dance that comprises around 50 forms and subgenres, including tango nuevo, milonga, canyengue, tango salon and neotango. It was first danced in the bars and salons of the working-class neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, but by the 1920s, it reached international success and appeal.
Now, you can enjoy its timeless beauty without the need to cross the Atlantic. “We Call It Tango” tells the story of tango across three acts and thirteen dances, as talented musicians play the notes of “Adiós Nonino”, “El Choclo”, “Vida Mia” and many more.
