I’ll drink to that…

Multi award-winning wine bar brand Vagabond has set its sights on Birmingham to launch its first bar outside of London. They will be bringing their notorious self-dispensing wine machines to the city, no doubt delighting the self-professed connoisseurs and oenophiles that find themselves passionately deliberating over smoky notes and earthy aromas every weekend.

The unique set up that has won the wine-loving hearts of Londoners consists of savvy self-pour vending machines. You simply control the machines using an app on your phone – there’s no queue fidgeting impatiently behind you or waiters tapping their pen expectantly – just all the time you need to choose from a selection of vino from around the world. Tasting notes are also at hand to help you make the seemingly-impossible decision.

The concept that first came to fruition at a small shop in Fulham back in 2010 has taken the Big Smoke by storm and now has seven branches and an urban winery scattered around the city. The doors to this Birmingham-based wine wonderland are set to open on October 22nd – an autumnal debut for Vagabond’s first venture away from home.

As for the décor, there’ll be no need for rosé-tinted glasses if Vagabond’s stylish track record is anything to go by. The bar will occupy a former bank in the heart of Birmingham’s business district, where an old vault will be transformed into a private tasting room and an army of wine bottles will line the walls. If you’re looking to make a withdrawal, there will be over 100 wines available to try, not to mention self-serve craft beer and a variety of cocktails on the menu. Vagabond haven’t forgotten your stomach either; with a selection of nibbles available to soak up that pleasant buzz.

A Brummie himself, Vagabond’s Managing Director Matt Fleming is excited to launch the 200+ capacity bar, stating: “It feels so good to be back in my home city and to have the opportunity to bring our extensive array of wines to the people of Birmingham. I know I speak on behalf of the entire Vagabond team when I say that we are really looking forward to sharing this concept, in a way that makes wine-tasting an interactive and accessible experience for all.”

Whether it’s to languidly the sip the nectar of the gods with friends, show off your wine-tasting prowess or check out the new digs, Vagabond is promising an irresistible new night out for the residents of Birmingham.
