Expect party bags, piñatas and plenty of pints!

If you thought you felt ancient when your birthday comes around, think again. Try being the oldest pub in Birmingham about to reach a whopping 653 years old, therefore it’s only right that celebrations are had for reaching such a ripe, old age.

The Old Crown, built in 1368, was the only structure left intact after the Battle of Camp Hill in 1643, and during its rich history was even a stop for Queen Elizabeth I on her way back from Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire. Plus, the pub will be celebrating another milestone in its history with a free weekend of events to which everyone is invited taking place this month.

The Old Crown’s 653rd Birthday Weekender will run across Friday 24th September and Saturday 25th September, from 5pm onwards, and will feature a fantastic live music programme of local artists featuring Liamosino, Lobster and local legend and drummer from The Twang, Ash Sheehan. Guests can also enjoy DJs, cocktails, delicious street food from Bop Kebabs and even a gin piñata throughout the weekend of celebrations.

The Digbeth pub has enjoyed a fantastic summer of events since their full reopening in June, playing host to everything from Euro football screenings in their huge beer garden to the recent Foka Wolf Experience, which showcased works and installations from the local artist and other creatives in the city.

Ciaran Healy, manager of The Old Crown said: “We are looking forward to celebrating our birthday again this year, it’s been a tough year for hospitality and unfortunately our plans had to be cancelled for 2020, so we have two years of celebrations to make up for!”

Attendees throughout the weekend will also receive a free party bag (because is it an actual party without one?) as a thank you from the pub, containing birthday treats and prizes including vouchers from Digbeth residents like The Mill and Mama Roux. However there are a limited amount available so this is a party you don’t want to be late for!

Tickets to The Old Crown Birthday Weekender are free and you can buy a ticket to guarantee you reserve a party bag here.
