Whether shopping in Selfridges or cycling around Stirchley, you shouldn’t ever have to travel far to find brilliant bakeries in Birmingham. But you’ll feel like you’ve flown to Scandinavia if you decide to visit Silver Tree Bakery – the Sutton Coldfield bakery situated inside of a wooden chalet, surrounded by woodland and picnic benches.
We toss the term ‘hidden gem’ around a lot, but Silver Tree Bakery more than lives up to the tagline. This fairytale-like bakery is quickly becoming iconic, however, thanks to the chalet’s timber A-frame and ever-changing seasonal decorations. It’s always embracing the holidays, from Halloween to Christmas, with twinkling lights brightening up gloomy, winter days.
But we’re not just big fans because it’s incredibly cute (although that helps). Silver Tree Bakery absolutely smashes it too when it comes to baked goods. Bread, cakes, tarts, brownies, cookies, tarts, pies, sausage rolls, croissants, toasties. If you can think of it, in likelihood, this bakery on Water Orton Lane is serving it. We mean, just look at these photos, don’t tell us your mouth isn’t already watering…
With over 20 years of experience, everything is baked fresh in-house each day using only locally sourced ingredients. So you know quality is guaranteed. Beyond just the classic goods, the bakers also like to get a little creative now and again. Just some of the unique creations include a Bakewell croissant (a match made in baked heaven) and an ever-changing variety of cruffins (from summer berries to milk cereal to key lime pie).
But whatever you choose, will not disappoint. Especially if you decide to stick around with a hot drink. Sit back and soak up the surroundings of the chalet, woodland and big open skies. You’ll feel a million miles from Birmingham City Centre – although, in reality, you’re only a 20-minute drive away – and will dread the return journey home, especially through the oddly placed nearby industrial site.
If you fancy packing up some goods for a day trip, the Tame Valley Wetlands are within driving distance. The Tame Way, both river and canal routes, provides beautiful and hidden waterside walks for soaking up the local landscape, history and wildlife. Only made better when you’ve stocked up on too many baked goods from Silver Tree Bakery. To learn more about the bakery head here.
