Earlier this year, Passing Fancies was named the 16th best cocktail bar in the UK. There was just one small problem. Having spent the years carving out a space that offers “approachable luxury” yet with “kitchen at a house party” vibes at The Custard Factory, it actually closed last summer.
But worry not. Passing Fancies isn’t dead. Following a string of pop-ups at the likes of 24 Stories, Selfridges, Saint Paul’s Market, and Manchester’s The Morris, the award-winning cocktail bar finally has a permanent new home in the Jewellery Quarter—a round of Adult Ribenas, anyone?

Joining the Sicilian restaurant, Vieni, in the new neighbourhood, The Goodsyard, Passing Fancies reopens on Friday, April 24. But PF2.0 isn’t just a new location, it’s a whole new set-up for the tight-knit team. Split into two, you will find Passing downstairs and Fancies upstairs.
What!?
“Passing is super accessible and great quality, but always approachable. We’re talking good beers, great cocktails, where you can bring a first date, a friend, or just somewhere that’s comfortable after work,” explains co-owner Matt Arnold. “Fancies upstairs is the wanky cocktail bar. This is where we get a little creative and stretch out.”

With a menu written over the past 10 months, “that is a love letter to our city”, Passing Fancies could’ve stopped there, and we’d be pretty excited about it. But there’s a ‘secret’ third space as part of PF2.0: The Lab. Described as the team’s “playground”, this is where you experience what goes on behind the scenes every Friday and Saturday night.
🌐 Bookings are already live, and while the opening weekend looks pretty full, there will be some space for walk-ins. To take a look yourself, you can head to the website here.
