There’s no doubt about it, our city boasts one of the best street food in the UK. Starting later this June, Birmingham’s oldest pub hopes to become the jewel in The Old Crown with the launch of a brand new street food festival in Digbeth, however. Street Food Fest will host several kitchens across four weeks of street food events.
Seven of the best traders from the Midlands and beyond will set up in their beer garden serving up delicious eats everyone can enjoy. The launch party will take place on Saturday, June 17. The series of events with live music, DJs and tasty street food from Canadian poutine connoisseurs Spuds & Bros and Korean-inspired Grounded Kitchen.
“We can’t wait to bring this brand new street food festival to Digbeth,” said co-owner of the pub, Ciaran Healy. “Between the Street Food Fest, our Summer Programme and Pairc Festival, this summer is shaping up to be our biggest year yet, and we hope you’re as excited for the next few months as we are.”
After the launch, Street Food Fest will return on July 1 for an Independence Day Burger Party with Boo Burgers and Juke Burger. Heading into Mexico on July 8, enjoy tacos, tequila and frozen margaritas with Birmigham’s very own Tierra Tacos. Lastly, the closing party will see Indian streatery Zindiya and Mexico-inspired Good Food Cartel stop by on July 15.
Street Food Fest is completely free, but you can reserve a space to ensure you can get in. On top, The Old Crown also recently announced their full summer programme, with live music + DJs every weekend, as well as several exciting takeovers. Highlights include a celebrity quiz from Shaun Wallace (The Chase’s Dark Destroyer), after parties for Pairc Festival, and a Pagan Disco featuring Brummie artists Foka Wolf and Tat Vision.
