Train travel has rarely been comfortable, especially at Christmas – images of travellers packing into carriages, with suitcases full of presents, as they make their way across the country to visit family and friends come to mind. But why not travel in luxury this holiday season by boarding the Northern Belle?
Described as Britain’s most luxurious train, the Northern Belle will be from Birmingham International Station on December 15 – as well as Derby on December 6. Probably the poshest train journey you’ll likely ever experience, the round-trip will include a seven-course festive lunch, flowing champagne, and the stunning sights of the English countryside.
Northern Belle says: “From the moment you step aboard one of our exquisitely decorated 1930s-style Pullman carriages, time slows down on the Northern Belle as we transport you back to the golden era of rail travel – the days when nothing was too good for those sophisticated passengers who demanded to travel in true style.”
Departing at 12:25pm, you’ll arrive back in Birmingham six hours later at 6:25 pm. In between, you’ll have the run of these 1930s Pullman-style carriages – where everything from pristine white linen to sparkling glassware screams luxury! Within minutes, you’ll have a glass of champagne in your hand as you peruse the menu.
Starting with prepared canapés, including caviar blinis, your starter is then served, followed by a seasonal soup course, the festive main course, a seasonal dessert and an array of British cheeses, accompanied with chutney, fruitcake, biscuits and a glass of Port. Finally, soak in the passing sights with tea and petits fours.
It’s not all about wine and dining, onboard entertainment will sprinkle a little extra bit of Christmas magic, with the likes of a table magician and strolling musicians. Of course, luxury doesn’t come cheap. This boujee train journey costs £395 per passenger (but is that any worse than a real train ticket?) For an extra £195, upgrade to the KRUG class, which comes with several extras. To learn more about Northern Belle’s Christmas lunch journey head here.
