It’s easy to forget that Robin Williams in the 1990s was unmatched. Would the likes of Hook, Jumanji, Flubber, or even Good Will Hunting have become cultural cornerstones without his golden touch? Nevertheless, for a whole generation, Mrs. Doubtfire is now an iconic movie, with its own hit comedy musical that’s coming to Birmingham next year.
When out-of-work actor Daniel loses custody of his kids, he creates an alter ego to stay in their lives, his new character takes on a life of its own. Now, the beloved “Scottish nanny” Euphegenia Doubtfire will be packing up her suitcase and hitting the road, as the West End and Broadway musical Mrs. Doubtfire tours the UK and Ireland for the first time.
The hit comedy musical will open at the Birmingham Hippodrome in August 2026, followed by dates in Newcastle, Plymouth, Leeds, Glasgow, and Southampton, with many more cities to be announced. Mrs. Doubtfire will once again star Gabriel Vick (Les Misérables, Nativity Rocks!) as Daniel Hillard, following his acclaimed performances in the West End, while further casting is still to be announced.
“I am delighted to be bringing the beloved Mrs. Doubtfire direct from London to audiences throughout the UK and Ireland,” Gabriel Vick said. “The musical is full of the moments you know and love from the film and also packed with brilliant new songs. It is heartwarming, hilarious and going to be so much fun for the whole family. See you there, Poppets!”
‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ features original music and lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, while the book is by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell (team behind Tony Award-nominated musical Something Rotten!). Direction is by Jerry Zaks (Hello, Dolly!), choreography by Lorin Latarro (Waitress), and Music Supervision, Arrangements & Orchestrations by Ethan Popp (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical).
