Summer has come at last! The sun is shining today in Birmingham and what better way to celebrate (other than hitting the pub gardens) than to start preparing for the August Bank Holiday weekend? We reckon the best way to kick off the weekend, is to book off the Friday and head down to Mostly Jazz All-Dayer.
Turning the last Bank Holiday until Christmas (oh no) into a four-day weekend, Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival is throwing an all-day rager on Friday (August 25). Heading to Moseley Park again, it’s bringing along Hot Chip to man the decks for a headlining DJ set, aided by Crazy P Soundsystem, Boca 45, Sanity, and more.
The Mostly Jazz All-Dayer is a direct response to the interruption of the main festival, back in early July, when the site had to be briefly evacuated due to harsh weather. The team are keen for a “redo”, and with the infrastructure already in place for UB40: The Homecoming the same weekend (August 27), the stage is set for a wild weekend.
Emerging in the early ’00s, synth-pop act Hot Chip continues to innovate, with last year’s eighth album, Freakout/Release, reshaping elements of pop, disco, ’80s, funk, house and rave to continued acclaim. They previously appeared at Mostly Jazz in 2021 in their Hot Chip Megamix guise.
Returning to the site after July’s slightly storm-bashed festival are Nottingham’s crowd-pleasing Crazy P Soundsystem and Bristol DJ/producer Boca 45, while Sanity (previously known as Lady Sanity) is one of Birmingham’s leading music lights – her recent Late Night track is a smooth blend of hip hop, jazz and soul.
Rounding off the Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival All-Dayer bill are Wolverhampton’s NeONE The Wonderer (whose Never Die is inspired by jazz, drill and Wu-Tang), plus spoken word artist Jadapoetryyy, Sherene and Smallboy. Alongside the music, the event will also see some of Brum’s best street food vendors too.
Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival All-Dayer will run from 1 pm to 10.30 pm on Friday, August 25. Tickets are priced at £25 (adult), £13.50 (under 18s) with under 12s free. To get your’s head here.
