Hidden in the depths of Digbeth, a multi-sensory VR experience which combines mind blowing technology with a physical sensation overload is about to change up your social plans for the better. Launched by Atmos VR, the venue known as In A Box, In A Box, In A Box offers a world where gaming, VR, theatre and film collide with the latest technology to create a truly immersive 4D virtual reality experience.
Located on Floodgate Street, where Steven Spielberg’s futuristic blockbuster Ready Player One was filmed, the Digbeth site, which is open from October 6, will be the first of eight bespoke immersive entertainment venues planned to be rolled-out across the country over the next five years. The first experience, Chernobyl: Hidden Depths, is written by Hollywood screenwriter, Jeremy Drysdale, who wrote popular TV programme, Line of Duty.
The experience is set at Chernobyl Reactor 4, where, unknown to the general public, a covert black ops corporation has been running secret experiments on soldiers, in partnership with the Russian government, using the very radiation that caused the plant to explode. The participating team must rely on their wits and intelligence to solve the challenge through a series of puzzles, which will facilitate their escape before either the mutated soldiers, or the radiation, gets them.
Visitors will be asked to complete a demanding mission as they battle the elements to overcome the hazards in the dangerous radioactive plant. They will experience challenges to all of their senses as they move between the zones; plus they will be able to pick up and touch virtual objects in the game using optical hand-tracking devices.
Plus, for the first time in the UK, this multi-sensory experience will allow users will to also be able to smell the environment in Chernobyl. The creators of this VR experience recreated the smell by using special scent technology which stimulates emotional and behavioural responses virtually.
On the VR experience’s website, it says:” We want you to see your story, but we also want you to feel it, touch it, smell it and (quite literally) be moved by it. We’ll challenge your mind in a way that’s never been done before.” Each show takes between 45-50 minutes and the entire experience will take around 60 minutes. Visitors can participate in groups of up to 4 people.
Your VR experience will start by being given your mission and then you’ll discover your first task, which could be anything, so follow your story, prepare your senses… and expect the unexpected. The Digbeth site is an enormous, COVID secure, free-roaming experience area, making it the perfect place to release your senses and escape to another world.
Plus, there’s The Portal- In A Box’s very own bar. A place to gather and settle your nerves before and after your virtual reality experience. Here you can also enjoy delicious cocktails inspired by the storyline.
The creators of this VR experience said: “Thinking outside the box is so last year. It’s time to think In A Box In A Box In A Box.” Are you ready for it? Book your visit here.
