You should have heard the sad news by now that Hockley Social Club will be closing at the end of the year. The beating heart of Birmingham’s street food scene for the past five years, it’s going to leave a gaping hole when it’s gone. But maybe Digbeth Dining Club’s other venue could help fill it, which may even be the better of the two food halls!
Herbert’s Yard, which opened in 2021, has been named one of the UK’s top 10 food halls outside London. In a new study from Betway, the popular street food hangout ranked fourth among the UK’s favourites—with 177,600 searches a year, a 4.6-star Google rating, and 1,876 Instagram hashtag mentions
Okay, so it is all the way out in Longbridge, but that shouldn’t put you off. It should only take 30 minutes to get to from the city centre (whether by car or train). And, with up to eight traders on rotation every week, two bars and a huge outdoor beer garden, it’s still Birmingham’s go-to for incredible street food.
This week alone (July 16 to 20, 2025), tuck into everything from award-winning hot dogs from Fat Snags to authentic Neapolitan pizza from Amore and Caribbean fusion from Esmies. You can also grab gyros (Gyro Guys), wings (Greidy’s), burgers (Filthy Burgers), or curry (SBCC). To top it off, Urban Cheesecake has pudding sorted!
It’s not just about street food, either. Herbert’s Yard hosts several events throughout the week—including a regular quiz night and comedy club. Best of all, however, The Herb Garden fills the yard with independent market traders on the first Sunday of every month (12 to 5 pm) and is full of unique products to discover.
