We never miss a chance to treat ourselves. But Birmingham is abound with enough delicious dessert shops, luckily, to satisfy any sweet tooth. We’ve never found anything quite as luxurious as Heavenly Desserts in Handsworth, however. Well-known for luxurious and Instagram-worthy puddings, the deluxe dining experience prefers to serve as somewhere you can settle down over quick indulgent treats.
Perhaps start with a plate of mochi – a soft, steamed rice flour dough wrapped around a ball of gelato, popular in Japan. Before moving onto Heavenly Desserts’ mind-boggling signature dessert, croffles. A match made in heaven between croissants and waffles, you can order it five ways. Biscoff & white chocolate, dark chocolate and pistachio, ruby chocolate and raspberry, peanut butter and jam, or tiramisu. Can we all order all five?
But you cannot leave without trying the now iconic and completely unique Grow Up plant pot. Arriving like it comes from Hirons Garden Centre rather than a dessert parlour, you might be a little sceptical. But trust us, there’s nothing dirty about this. It is instead filled with cookie cheesecake cream, soft cookie pieces, Oreo ‘soil’ and Biscoff milk syrup. Delicious.
But to get to a real taste of everything on the menu, you might want to try the new tapas menu. Now that’s something we’ve not seen before at a dessert shop. For three for £12 or five for £18, you can sample everything from profiteroles and baklava to brownies and tarts, and much more. Elsewhere on the menu you can also order some mouthwatering dishes such as milk cakes, cheesecakes and cookie dough. There are vegan options now too that include cookie dough, waffles and ice cream.
For those looking to quench their thirst, the drinks are just as luxurious. The saffron latte is smooth, sweet and fragrant. While their signature iced drinks are as bold in colour as they are in flavour. You can also order milkshakes, smoothies, as well as teas and coffee.
Heavenly Desserts was first established in 2008 and now has over 40 locations around the UK.
