From cutting-edge live bands to Ibiza-inspired parties, for the past eight years, Mama Roux’s has been our go-to spot in Digbeth for a raucous night out. Whilst making a name for itself with in-your-face entertainment and confetti drops, the team now want to try something a little different with the launch of a brand-new nightclub right next door.
Club Colette promises to go back to basics, by putting the DJ, intimacy, and sound quality front and centre; all things its founders say have been stripped away from Digbeth in recent years. It’s opening for a sneak preview this weekend… before an official opening in 2025, on March 1.
The new Lower Trinity Street club will be split across two rooms, with a main space featuring a unique tiered design for elevated dancing, wrapped around the meaty DJ booth. Meanwhile, Room 2 is being called the smallest in the city, homed inside of a converted, abandoned fried chicken shop. The two rooms are linked by a terrace under the iconic Victorian viaducts.
“In an era where venues and events seem to be growing bigger and bigger,” Benjy Hill says, “we’re focusing on getting the little details right and bringing the artists headlining these mega venues back directly in front of the types of crowds that helped them learn their craft with support from our residents.”
Located on one of Digbeth’s most well-known nightlife streets, Saturday’s guests will be hand-picked from prolific international electronic DJs from house and techno, while the Chicken Shop will help support many subgenres. Friday’s programming will be more geared towards supporting up-and-coming artists from a broader range of genres. There are also plans for summer day parties from local and international brands.
Benjy says “It was always our long-term ambition to get our hands on all five railway arches at the foot of Lower Trinity Street, and with the re-introduction of food in 2025, we are proud to be creating a real exciting cultural destination, there really is now something for everyone”.
