From the futuristic Selfridges building to ‘the world’s first octagonal skyscraper’, Birmingham’s skyline is already pretty iconic. But no tower block truly represents the Brummie spirit, until now. Developers have designed a bull-shaped skyscraper for the city centre, with construction aiming to begin in late 2027.
Inspired by the adoration that both Ozzy the Bull and the Bullring bull attract, real estate developer Peaky Builders (based in Singapore) has created the world’s first bull-inspired skyscraper, which will also be Birmingham’s tallest building when finally complete—likely to be in 2030.
Located in the heart of the city, ‘The Bull-dozer’ (as it’s already being nicknamed) will be built right beside the Selfridges building. While nothing is specifically mentioned, the new tower will either have to replace or incorporate the Bullring. Developers did warn of an increase in roadwork, however, particularly in Digbeth.
The estimated total development cost will be around £110 million and stand at 180 metres tall. To keep disruption in Birmingham to a minimum, the project manager behind HS2 has been hired to keep construction on time and under budget. Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi has also asked if ‘this bull could be named after him’.
What will the new tower offer?
With a mix of accommodation, including many affordable flats, some of the most sought-after (and expensive) properties are expected to be located in the horns and ears, while the bull’s nose ring will house a go-kart race track. There is also space for four new food halls in the hooves.
April Fools! Sorry if we got you for a moment there…
