I think I’ve found my calling.
If you’re a regular reader of Secret Birmingham, you’ve probably guessed already that we’re pretty obsessed with food, so the thought of being paid to eat it – no matter the dish – sounds like a dream come true. And just when we thought that was all it was – merely a dream – the team at The Botanist has announced that they’re bringing that fantasy to life, with a brand new job role known as the ‘Pro-tato Tester’.
Designed to coincide with their newest menu launch, the family-style ‘Sharing Roast’, the UK-wide restaurant is on the hunt for someone with particularly keen tastebuds for the job, with the successful candidate in charge of providing feedback on both the roast and its accompanying side dishes.
Consisting of a choice of four types of meat – including roast sirloin of beef, roast chicken, pot roast lamb shoulder, slow roast honey glazed pork belly – or a vegan wellington, the lucky Pro-tato Taster will get the opportunity to try them all, with Sunday roasts provided right up until August 2022 (for free, may we add!).
The main event is accompanied by a variety of sides – which arguably, make or break a good roast – with dishes such as cauliflower cheese, creamed cabbage with smoked bacon, stuffing balls and pigs in blankets (because those tasty little suckers shouldn’t just be for Christmas!).
James Scott, Executive Chef, “One thing we’ve definitely missed over the last year is sitting down and sharing a roast with our nearest and dearest. Our latest Botanist roast menu is designed with those moments in mind. I’m hoping the Pro-tato Tester can help us ensure our roast is always worth sharing.”
So, what does the winning applicant get?
- £500 on completion of the first tasting
- A roast for six to share with friends or family
- A roast for two every single month until August 2022
- A business card
