This limited edition cocktail is sure to put a spring in your step.
Fans of Birmingham Royal Ballet can enjoy a trip to a different kind of barre next month with a brand-new cocktail inspired by the company’s Romeo and Juliet season coming to The Pineapple Club cocktail bar in Great Western Arcade. Created by The Pineapple Club’s bar manager, Klára Kopčiková, the limited-edition cocktail is called “The Last Sip” and is a blend of floral and fruity flavours such as violet, lavender, and raspberry topped with prosecco.
The cocktail which is inspired by the upcoming performance by Birmingham Royal Ballet will be on sale at The Pineapple Club from Friday 1 October until Saturday 16 October. The drink also features a special ingredient to surprise the pallet alongside those floral and fruity notes.
Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s passionate Romeo and Juliet choreography and Prokofiev’s glorious score will set hearts alight in this enduringly popular, classic interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy created especially for Birmingham Royal Ballet, featuring dancers Yaoqian Shang and Tyrone Singleton. From the balcony scene’s ecstatic pas de deux, exploring love in all its soaring wonder, to the lovers’ heart-breaking ends, Romeo and Juliet is ballet at its most poignant and beautiful.
In addition, visitors can also witness a unique performance known as Carlos Curates: R&J Reimagined, which sees Romeo and Juliet get a very different treatment with the company premiere of Romanian choreographer Edward Clug’s Radio and Juliet. This show is a modern reinvention of the classic story set to the music of Radiohead, featuring tracks from Kid A, Amnesiac and OK Computer.
Radio and Juliet will form a double bill with Birmingham-based, Rosie Kay Dance Company’s performing their brand-new work, a re-imagining of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy. Rosie Kay’s Romeo + Juliet sets the action in the hot Birmingham summer of 2021. In this diverse city, young people’s family loyalties give way to gang allegiance as teenagers play with adult rules. A party in the park gets out of control sparking rumours, rioting and revenge. In the midst of rivalries, first tastes of freedom and sparks of a full-on first love ignite.
Birmingham Royal Ballet’s will perform Romeo and Juliet at Birmingham Hippodrome from Wednesday 6 – Saturday 9 October and Carlos Curates: R&J Reimagined, Thursday 14 – Saturday 16 October. The Pineapple Club boasts a selection of delightfully handcrafted cocktails, a wide range of craft beers, and a fantastic food menu alongside this brand new violet-hued cocktail.
