BIMM Birmingham is set to host its inaugural Backyard Summer Festival this Thursday, June 4. Students from Performers College, MetFilm School, and BIMM Music Institute Birmingham will come together for a day of creative showcases—all under one roof at BIMM University’s Digbeth campus.
This brand-new summer festival gives students a platform to present their work from across the term. You can expect film screenings, live music, theatre performances, exhibitions, dance showcases, and DJ sets, all running from 4pm to 9pm, and all free to attend.
What’s on at Backyard Summer Festival?

Anticipated events include a showcase of exciting bands: emo punk rock band Jazzcat; Kitty Bella, whose honest and raw lyrics will amaze and inspire; Esore Alle, with his catchy single “Mom, I did Drugs!”; and Wooden Dog, whose nostalgic indie folk is reminiscent of the genre’s early 2010s golden period.
The event will also feature an innovative dance showcase exploring the versatility of dance, from classical foundations to contemporary innovation, as well as performance art pieces. But the Backyard Summer Festival invites guests to see the impact BIMM University has had, spanning film, media, music and more.

“What makes BIMM Birmingham so special is the collaboration across schools,” said James Maiden, Associate Director of Student Experience. “Students from music, film, and performing arts all have the freedom to work together on shared creative projects, and we actively encourage this. As a result, our students benefit from a vibrant, collaborative environment.
“In Birmingham, we operate within an ecosystem that mirrors the creative industries, giving students maximum exposure to a wide range of creative practices. Our end-of-term Backyard Summer festival, hosted right here on campus, showcases this collaborative spirit and provides a perfect opportunity to invite the city’s creative community to experience the diverse and exciting work being produced.”
