Cue GBBO theme music.
Beer gardens and outdoor terraces are now the new destination du jour and it seems more outdoor spaces are popping up in the city suitable for all our post-lockdown soirées. One space that has emerged as further restrictions were lifted is this new canopy-covered garden bar, bringing a slice of Great British Bake Off vibes to Digbeth, all set up by the team running The Big Birmingham Bake.
The beautiful little baking venue has a year round bar attached where baking guests and passers-by can grab a drink- whether that’s a pre-bake tipple, or a post bake celebratory round. Launched this spring, the garden bar has seating available in their luxuriously-revamped shipping container, as well as under their garden canopy, which is complete with heaters, blankets and deck chairs.
The Big Birmingham Bake also offers bottomless prosecco and beer bundles making it the perfect place to socialise with friends and family, whether you’re there to bake or not. Their drinks menu even features a few cocktails inspired by some classic baking favourites such as their Bakewelltini and Red Velvet Swirl.
Plus, no garden bar can be without some summery drinks so The Big Birmingham Bake is serving up glasses and jugs of the great British cocktail classic, Pimms, as well as bringing the Mediterranean to Brum with Aperol Spritz on their menu. And from May 3, local pizza purveyors and neighbours, Baked By Brick, will be delivering delicious food to guests at the garden bar.
“Let there be cake!” said the people of Birmingham, and luckily your wish is granted as they’ll be free cake doing the rounds too! The garden bar is open every Friday to Sunday from 12pm until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and until 9pm on Sundays.
The competitive baking experience is expected to be back up and running from May 17 so from this date onwards you can enjoy a slice of cake baked by yours truly! The marquee has 12 cooking stations, with all baking equipment supplied and you can bake in teams of two. All you need to bring is your creativity and some healthy competition.
