A brand-new tapas bar and restaurant looks to bring the taste of Barcelona to Birmingham when it opens this July. Baresca Tapas looks to launch in Sutton Coldfield’s Mere Green, introducing the locals to a more relaxed style of dining centred around shared plates and Spanish hospitality.
What began with West Bridgford’s Escabeche in 2010 has evolved into a much-loved collection of venues inspired by the food, culture and sociability of Barcelona. The new restaurant is set in the old 4,700 sq ft Pierre Bistro unit on Mere Green Road, it will have 150 covers inside and 40 on the outdoor terrace.

“What inspired us from the very beginning was the spirit of Barcelona,” said Jon Perkins, Managing Director of Perkins Family Group. “The city has an incredible way of bringing people together around the table. Meals are relaxed, food is shared, conversations last longer, and there is a real sense of connection.”
The menu will feature authentic tapas, Baresca’s signature rotisserie chicken (locally sourced, brined and marinated for 24 hours before being slow-roasted on the spit), alongside seasonal specials and a carefully curated drinks list featuring cocktails, sangria, vermouth and Spanish wines.

Jon adds, “Mere Green feels like the perfect place to write the next chapter of the Baresca story. It has a fantastic sense of community and an independent spirit that aligns perfectly with what we’re all about, and we’re excited to become part of it. It’s also so great to be part of the wider Birmingham hospitality scene.”
Baresca Tapas is due to open on Wednesday, July 22, for lunch and dinner, with breakfast served at weekends. Weekly Barcelona Beats vinyl DJ sessions will add to the atmosphere every Friday evening. You can learn more about Baresca Tapas by heading here.
