With Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers in Dallas right now with England (Wednesday, June 17), my mind is mostly on the World Cup, but what a surprise it is to see Aston Villa named the UK’s most pleasant football away day—beating the rest of the Premier League by far for visiting fans’ experience.
The experts at football ticket marketplace, Live Football Tickets, have compared things like winter weather data, relative distance information and even the average cost of a pint in order to create the ultimate ranking of the best away days in the new Premier League (just in time for the 26/27 season).
Aston Villa’s Villa Park is ranked as the best away day with an overall score of 8/10. This is thanks to its proximity to other teams (average travel distance from rival clubs: 96.7 miles), one of the lowest winter precipitation rates in the study (28.75%), and highly-rated reviews from other fans (4.65/5), but where should Villans look forward to?
Well, for similar reasons, Midlands rival, Nottingham Forest, ranked as the second-best away day in the league with a score of 7.82/10, and the average reviewer rated them 4.55/5. Forest also boasted a short travel distance to other Premier League teams (97.4 miles) and a low average price of a pint in the region (£4.47).
Meanwhile, no London football club managed to crack the top three, as Fulham FC is the capital’s highest-ranked club in fourth place (7.51/10). This was followed by Tottenham Hotspur in 6th place ( 7.47/10) and Chelsea in 8th place (7.42/10). Coming dead last, it is Leeds United that offers the least pleasant away day for fans (6.06/10).
