You are invited to dig up dahlias and grow them in your own garden this Sunday. In May, more than 5,000 dahlia tubers were planted for the Flora Fields at Webbs Garden Centre, producing over 200,000 flowers, but as the plants die back for winter, they need a new home.
The Flora Fields Charity Dahlia Dig Up takes place at Webbs in Wychbold, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 10am. Tubers can be stored safely over winter before being replanted in the spring. So with more than 60 varieties of dahlias, find your favourite variety and dig up its tuber to grow in your own garden next summer.
“We’re delighted to give visitors the chance to take home a little piece of Flora Fields,” said Louise Webb, Co-Owner and Director Support at Webbs. “After enjoying the beautiful dahlias in bloom throughout the summer, it’s lovely to think that people can now grow their favourites in their own gardens and enjoy them again next year.”
What makes this unique event even more special is that Webbs is raising money for two charities: St Richard’s Hospice provides free compassionate care to adults with incurable illnesses and Greenfingers Charity supports children with life-threatening conditions. Dahlia tubers will cost just £2 each, with every penny donated.
“Each year it costs around £12 million to keep our care and support services running, and 80% of that is raised by kind hospice supporters,” said Ria Simons, Corporate Fundraising Manager for St Richard’s Hospice. “We’re so grateful to local businesses, like Webbs, who help raise funds for St Richard’s and ensure our care lives on for patients and families across Worcestershire.”
Admission to the Flora Fields Charity Dahlia Dig Up is £2 per person, and you’re required to pre-book a one-hour session online in advance. Webbs’ horticultural team will be on hand to help visitors identify varieties and offer advice on how to lift, store and replant the tubers correctly, but please bring a garden fork, secateurs, suitable containers and practical clothing and footwear.
