Why don’t they have TV screens in supermarkets? I wouldn’t be so bothered spending half an hour wandering down every aisle looking for “whole chestnuts” if there was a little entertainment. I’d at least be able to stay on top of Team GB’s Olympics wins in Paris while I’m doing my weekly food shop instead of ‘working from home’ (that’s a joke if my editor is reading this).
Then again, we’d all be missing out on this incredible offer from Aldi – the official supermarket sponsor to Team GB and Paralympics GB – if my vision of TVs in supermarkets was realised. The German supermarket known for its off-brand products has promised to reimburse anyone who missed out on Great Britain’s gold-medal winning moments while shopping in-store.
Obviously, ALDI and I hope you’ve been cheering on the nation at every opportunity, but with 327 athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics, it’s not easy to catch every win – especially now that the gold medals are piling up. As of writing, Team GB has 12 gold medals and if you were at the supermarket for any of them, you can get up to £100 back in Aldi vouchers.
“The wait is over – we finally get to see Team GB in action and we want our shoppers to enjoy the games too,” said Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK. “We hope the vouchers will help them buy everything they need to set up an amazing Olympic watch party for the next event, and really revel in the Olympic fever.”
How do I claim my ALDI vouchers?
To prove that you were at ALDI during a gold medal-winning moment, you’ll need to fish out that old receipt and send a picture to aldicompetitions@citypress.co.uk. Aldi will reimburse the value of the shop in Aldi shopping vouchers up to the value of £100 for the first 10 entrants. The time shown on the receipt needs to be during the same minute that a Team GB athlete wins a gold medal.

What upcoming events should I head to ALDI for?
If you want to be smart you’ll be thinking about how you can time a food shop with a guaranteed gold medal win – and there are plenty still on offer with Paris 2024 concluding on Sunday, August 11. Just today (August 6), there are 15 gold medals with Team GB in with a shot for a few.
The biggest opportunity for another gold medal is the men’s 1500m final at 7:50pm with Great Britain’s Josh Kerr, the world champion, hoping to beat the reigning Olympic champion, Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Meanwhile, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix will want a second medal in Paris at the women’s 10m diving final (2pm).
Sky Brown – who became Team GB’s youngest-ever medalist at the Olympics in Tokyo – has the women’s skateboarding final at 4:30pm. Michael Beckett is sailing in the men’s dinghy medal race (2:43pm), Jacob Fincham-Dukes has the men’s long jump final (7:15pm), and Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita both have a shot at the women’s 200m final (8:40pm)
