There was a time when zombies were everywhere – from ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘The Last of Us’ to ‘Train to Busan’ and ‘Zombieland’ – and you couldn’t turn on a TV without witnessing the undead. Even still, they haven’t lost their fear factor after all that, especially when presented 360° virtual reality.
Sandbox VR, located in Bullring & Grand Central, has unveiled the latest instalment of its legendary zombie series, ‘Deadwood’. This adrenaline-fueled experience, ‘PHOBIA’, has been described as “the most terrifying yet” – and will be available to play from October 16, just in time for Halloween.
Visitors to the futuristic VR experience can expect to be transported into a derelict medical facility. Originally designed to treat patients’ fears through exposure therapy, but is now crawling with unprecedented, mind-bending horrors surrounding guests. You’ll battle hordes of enemies while fighting to save survivors.
Sandbox VR allows groups of up to six to physically interact with their teammates inside nine experiences – including Netflix’s official Squid Game Virtuals. PHOBIA is the first psychological horror experience from the VR specialists, as it takes guests on a journey through their own fears, where not everything that is seen can be trusted.
Andy Scanlon, CEO of Sandbox VR’s UK & Ireland franchise said: “Its prequel, Deadwood Valley, has been our most popular experience since its launch in 2022 and our guests have been crying out for a sequel. We have seen the proven success of this series and releasing this instalment in time for Halloween was a must for the biggest thrill-seekers to enjoy.”
