You’ve likely seen the prequel in cinemas recently (or at least the first half of it anyway). Now’s your chance to see the original story of Dorothy and her friends travelling across the magical land of Oz. Catch ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ like you’ve never seen before for one night only in Birmingham this March.
Using hundreds of illuminated drones in the night sky, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: The Drone Light Show’ is the newest show created by Celestial (creators of drone light shows across the globe) and Edgbaston Stadium. From the playful Munchkins to the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, this display of light and sound brings the iconic characters to life in a unique way.
After the success of ‘Evolution’ last year, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ is set to tour the UK, kicking off on March 1 at the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club in Birmingham. The creators have described this 45-minute event as more than a show, but “a celebration of courage, connection, and the magic that lives within us all.”
“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a beloved tale that has been endlessly retold across various genres,” said John Hopkins, Celestial founder. “This time, it is uniquely presented through drone art, elevating it beyond a traditional drone light show to an epic, stadium-scale experience. This innovative artistic medium brings audiences together through a shared sense of wonder.”
As an emerging art form, drone light shows have grown in popularity over the last 12 months – with Celestial having delivered 20 performances so far, experienced by over 85,000 people across the UK. In this retelling, audiences will experience L. Frank Baum’s classic tale fused with cutting-edge technology.
On top of the show, attendees can also expect an extensive food village and stadium entertainment before and after the show itself. Tickets are now on sale, with early bird tickets from £19 per adult and £14 per child (until January 31). You can get yours by heading here.
