A Huge List Of Community Aid Groups Filled With People Offering Help, Listed By Area

We’ve compiled a giant list of Facebook groups filled with people offering help in their local areas.

It’s a confusing time for everyone at the moment but some people are sending a simple and lovely message to one another — we have your back.

Self-quarantine can be a difficult experience for those who struggle with their mobility, with health problems, and those who live on their own. However, in the UK, thousands of people are doing their utmost to try and ensure nobody gets left behind, and it’s pretty heartwarming.

The approach of kind-hearted Brits is two-fold and incredibly organised. There’s the #viralkindness campaign, as well as mutual aid groups popping up on Facebook every day. Each of these consist of healthy individuals offering their time to run errands for those in need. The two work symbiotically and people are already beginning to benefit from them.

People are showing true compassion by posting simple slips of paper through doors (in the most sanitary way possible, of course). This is super helpful and important because a fifth of Britons do not use the internet and these people are generally of the older generation. We have Becky Wass of Cornwall to thank for initiating the #viralkindness campaign.

The idea is to offer whatever help you are safely able to offer, using the flyers. For some people that will mean a phone call with somebody who is feeling the strain of social isolation. Whereas some people have already been shopping for those who cannot leave the house. People are even picking up prescriptions and parcels for those in need of assistance!

And it’s not just kind individuals, either. Businesses and religious organisations across the UK are responding to this call to action, offering free food to those in isolation.

WhatsApp groups are also emerging to support people who need it. Some are also helping people to find items like toilet paper and paracetamol — items that can prove hard to find in shops. They do this by alerting people to shops who now have re-stocked on necessities. Often they are used to urge others not to buy more than necessary, echoing the sentiments of major supermarkets and many residents in the UK.
