Baked In Brick has opened its fourth neighbourhood cafe in Birmingham. The spin-off of the beloved pizzeria on Gibb Street (which started life serving street food out of a converted Mini) first opened in Sutton Coldfield two years ago – with the three-floor bakery serving everything from bread to brunch, cakes, and pastries. The Bakehouse has since spread to Wylde Green, Broad Street and, now, Digbeth.
Pretty much opposite the Baked in Brick restaurant, The Bakehouse in Digbeth has become our favourite spot for a quick coffee and cake, and stock up on freshly baked goods, delivered daily. The menu features an array of sandwiches with homemade sourdough, daily changing salad options, and overnight oats, as well as a selection of pastries, cakes and baked goods.
Alongside sourdough, The Bakehouse will offer a range of artisanal bread including bloomers, rolls, focaccia, and tin loaves. Visitors can also enjoy fresh juices, soft drinks and coffee from local, independent coffee roasters, Quarter House. Plus, keeping the treats sweet is Digbeth Honey – locally sourced from the bee hives on the roof of the Custard Factory.
Don’t expect anything massive, but the venue’s eight tables means there’s plenty of room to eat, drink and work in comfort – each table has access to plug sockets and free wifi for hybrid workers, cosy events or small group meetings. On Friday and Saturday evenings, The Bakehouse will host pop-up events, including wine and cheese nights.
Lee DeSanges, Owner and Director of the Baked In Brick group, said “Opening The Bakehouse just a stone’s throw away from our Digbeth restaurant is a full circle moment for us after having branched out into different areas in Birmingham. We’re looking forward to broadening our Digbeth footprint and once again joining the other amazing venues in the neighbourhood.”
“We’re so happy to be continuing to work with independent, ethical businesses such as Quarter House, Cackleberry Farm and Digbeth Honey, and to not only support the welfare of their producers and livestock but also to offer our customers the very best produce available.”
The Bakehouse can be found at Gibb Street, Digbeth, Birmingham B9 4AA and is open Monday – Friday: 8am – 4pm; Saturday: 9am – 4pm; Sunday: 10am – 4pm.
