Netflix’s ‘The Gentlemen’ – a spin-off of Guy Ritchie’s film of the same name – has been the surprise streaming hit of the year so far. Since all eight episodes dropped globally on March 7, 2024, the British crime comedy – where old money clashes with drug-smuggling gangsters – has become one of 2024’s biggest shows on the streaming platform.
If you haven’t seen it, ‘The Gentlemen’ follows Eddie who inherits the title of Duke of Halstead, following the death of his father, and discovers a weed empire run on his new 15,000-acre estate. We won’t spoil anymore, but it doesn’t really end on a cliffhanger. That hasn’t stopped fans clamouring for news of a second season.
Well, now we have it. One of the stars of the show, Kaya Scodelario (who plays Susie Glass, the de facto head of a cannabis empire) has seemingly confirmed that ‘The Gentlemen’ will ‘roll on’ for a second season – sharing a teaser video of a billboard in London (with the Shard visibly behind it).
There’s not much information. Just a giant 3D spliff burning down to reveal, ‘Roll on Season 2’. It doesn’t even look like a real billboard to be honest… Is it AI-generated!? Nevertheless, Variety has announced filming will commence next year, which could see the series return to our screens in late 2025/early 2026.
“With its gun-toting chickens and drug-dealing Dukes, ‘The Gentlemen’ was a huge hit with audiences in 2024,” said Netflix U.K.’s content VP. “Not really a surprise as Guy Ritchie remains one of the industry’s most iconic creators telling authentically British stories with his signature swagger, grit and wit. We are thrilled the series will be returning to Netflix for a second season, and cannot wait to see what happens when the worlds of old money and drug money collide once more.”
The cast is still to be announced, but we’ expect Theo James to return as Eddie aka the 13th Duke of Halstead; alongside Daniel Ings as his cocaine-addicted brother, Freddy, and Ray Winstone as the series’ big bad, Bobby Glass. Guy Ritchie also returns to direct and co-write with Matthew Read. Likely, filming for ‘The Gentlemen’ Season 2 will again take place in London and at Gloucestershire’s Badminton House (which stands in for Halstead Manor).
