Studio 54. It’s arguably the most famous nightclub of all time. That’s quite impressive when you consider that was only open for three years. In that short time, from 1977 to 1980, the legendary Manhattan club saw a who’s who of star-studded celebrities walk through its doors – everyone from Grace Jones to Mick Jagger, Jackie Kennedy and Andy Warhol, and many, many more.
You and I will never experience the excitement of rubbing shoulders with David Bowie or Diana Ross on the dancefloor, boogieing until the wee small hours to cutting-edge disco music, or all the debauchery that also came with Studio 54. But, we’ve found the next best thing in Birmingham, as The Night Owl’s award-winning disco club night ‘Le Freak’ returns this weekend.
After taking a sabbatical in 2024, Le Freak is back this Saturday (February 22) for a one-off special celebration of 45 years since Studio 54 closed down. The ultimate immersive Studio 54 experience will even feature red carpet photo opportunities (from 9-11PM) – where you can strut your stuff in your finest disco get-up, before heading inside this intimate Digbeth nightclub.
You’ll also discover disco DJs Mazzy Snape (The Night Owl) and Steffan Taylor (Love Affair) spinning the grooviest disco classics and floor fillers, plus, plenty of soul, funk and boogie for good measure (9PM-4AM). On top, there will be drag performances from Dominus Von Vexo and friends, as well as some wild surprises” promised.
The best part? It’s only £7 for advance tickets to secure your name on the most exclusive party in town. Or you can try your luck on the night and pay £10 at the door. Digbeth has already proved itself to be Birmingham’s coolest neighbourhood earlier in the week. So you wouldn’t want to be seen dead anywhere else other than here.
