Scandi-inspired furniture, a maze-like layout, and affordable prices? You can only find all three at IKEA Birmingham (Which is really in Walsall, isn’t it?) But that’s going to change very soon, when a ‘little IKEA’ opens in the city centre. Søstrene Grene is set to open its first Birmingham store in Grand Central.
You may not have heard of it, but the Danish lifestyle brand and homeware store is slowly taking over with its signature Scandinavian design, affordability, and hygge-inspired shopping. Known for small and stylish homewares, furniture and everyday items, it’s more than a knock-off of the Swedish store.
Inside, customers will step into a sensory environment, shaped by soft lighting, classical music and a labyrinth-style layout. The carefully selected range of products invites shoppers to explore everything from small furniture and kitchenware to craft supplies, soft furnishings and seasonal décor.

“We are delighted to finally announce the upcoming Grand Opening date for our Birmingham store,” said Jonathan Cooper, CEO of Søstrene Grene UK. “It is an especially exciting time for us as we continue to expand the brand’s presence across the UK.
We’ve already received such a great reaction to the initial announcement of our Birmingham store and think it will make a brilliant new addition to the centre’s retail offering. The celebration is not one to be missed, and we look forward to welcoming shoppers to Grand Central on opening morning.”
The new Birmingham store is set to open at Grand Central on Friday, September 19, marking the next step in Søstrene Grene’s UK takeover, with 100 new openings planned by 2027. And it’s about to become your go-to for everything from mirrors to bread baskets, candleholders and rugs. If IKEA is where you go to fill a room, then make Søstrene Grene the place to finish it.
