1. It breathes a luminescent new life into nature
Whether it’s a labyrinthine tangle of branches, a copper blanket of leaves or gentle rippling waters, nature has its own inherent magic that we can enjoy throughout the seasons. But during the more grey, dark, and chilly winter months, it can be harder to see its beauty.
Light Cycles give you the perfect reason to get some fresh air and see nature in a new light – literally. Five spectacular multisensory experiences work in harmony with the trees and lakes of Stonebridge Golf Course, transforming them into a sea of crystals, a vibrant visual orchestra and even a striking laser field where you’ll be tempted to reenact Vincent Cassel’s famous acrobatic scene from Ocean’s Twelve. Well, that might just be me.
2. You can experience multisensory magic
It’s not just colourful lights that you’ll encounter. The experience appeals to all the senses. As gravel crunches underfoot on your winding wander, you’ll hear atmospheric soundscapes and melodies. One moment you’ll be listening to the whispers of the trees in the Crystal Grove, the next you’ll be watching rhythmic music play a pattern of lights on still waters. As you walk around the one-kilometre trail, you’ll also find yourself interacting with the lights, whether it’s holding up a hand to a scattering of red beams and posing for a photo in front of a giant orb-like sun.

3. It can help you unwind and relax
There’s also the mental health benefits to consider. As well as getting you out among nature, the trail has many soothing elements, inviting you to stop and reflect as you take in the various installations. Your brain is sure to quieten as you lose yourself in gentle light sequences and watch hypnotic musical displays unfold. You’ll also get a chance to sit in front of the giant centrepiece ‘The Hearth’ which pulses like a beating heart and lulls you into a relaxed state.
4. It works as a family day out or a romantic date
There’s something special for all ages at Light Cycles. It can serve as a family adventure, where the little ones are sure to be hypnotised by the array of kaleidoscopic lights (and can burn off some excess energy along the trail). Alternatively, it can be a tranquil, romantic stroll to enjoy hand-in-hand with a loved one. There’s even a food and drinks stall – think mulled wine, loaded fries, burgers – at the start of the trail so you can make it a proper date night. It’s also been said that the mesmerising Into The Sunset installation has been a popular spot for proposals, hint hint.

5. It won’t be here forever
With the days (eventually) getting longer and the evenings lighter, it is no surprise that the Light Cycles trail will be ending soon. The lights will go out on February 16. Which means time is running out to experience it all for yourself. So, why not follow in the footsteps of many enchanted visitors and get a much-needed dose of luminescent magic and brain-pleasing art before it’s too late?
