We all want to live in a house, a very big house in the country, but there are plenty of reasons why most of us don’t. Cost is a huge one. So is a lack of transport. Of decent shops. Or any kind of infrastructure for that matter. But if you are plotting a rural relocation, then the poshest village in the West Midlands might be for you.
Using research by Savills, The Telegraph has announced the poshest villages in Britain by county. These are based on things like house prices, community, and pubs, shops and sporting facilities, alongside less measurable factors, such as heritage, setting, as well as that classic ‘village look’ (duck ponds, thatched cottages, etc.).
Where is the poshest village in the West Midlands?

Just 25 minutes from Birmingham city centre is the village of Barston. The West Midlands’ poshest village boasts good transport links, a riverside setting and its own golf course (West Midlands Golf Club). The average house will set you back about £682,196, which actually places it on the slightly cheaper end of the list. The Telegraph says:
“Barston is in a gorgeous rural riverside spot yet has quick access to transport networks and shopping in Solihull, where there’s a John Lewis. It’s a five-minute drive to the M42, and the train to Birmingham runs from nearby Dorridge. An HS2 interchange station near Birmingham Airport will provide a fast service to London.
“The village has a traditional pub, The Bull’s Head. There’s also a nearby gastropub, The Malt Shovel, and a popular lakeside restaurant at the nearby West Midlands Golf Club.”
What other posh villages are near Birmingham?

Of course, there are plenty of other counties surrounding Birmingham, which also have their own posh villages. In Staffordshire, Shenstone (average house price: £702,384) is only 30 minutes by car from Birmingham and boasts four village pubs, lovely playing fields, and lots of local amenities.
Elsewhere, the “well-kept, well-to-do conservation area” of Dodford with Grafton (£703,722) in Worcestershire, just on the outskirts of Bromsgrove, is under 40 minutes away. Plus, Cound in Shropshire (£518,967) is an hour’s drive from Birmingham, while Warwickshire’s Whichford (£1,074,018) is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
