Wherever you go in Birmingham these days, Cillian Murphy is one of two faces you’re bound to see everywhere (the other being Ozzy’s). With the release of each season, ‘Peaky Blinders’ has grown bigger and bigger, and the new Netflix movie, ‘The Immortal Man’, has only solidified its iconic Brummie status.
To mark last month’s release, Netflix has commissioned a new look for the legendary ‘Peaky Blinders’ mural, which is now live on Hill Street, near Birmingham New Street. The 50-metre installation, by Birmingham’s very own artist Jon Jones, depicts memorable scenes from the new film featuring Tommy Shelby.

The original Peaky Blinders mural on Hill Street was installed in 2022 before the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. But Jon Jones has updated the artwork, calling it “a real honour.” He says, “It means a great deal to see the work evolve in the city and continue to connect with people passing through every day.”
Jon Jones has also collaborated with the West Midlands Police Museum to explore the city’s 19th-century criminal underworld. Drawing on archival materials, including police records and historic mugshots, his haunting paintings examine the legacy of the infamous Peaky Blinders, capturing both the myth and reality of the era.

“This update marks an exciting new chapter for an already iconic installation,” said Ian Weatherby-Blythe, Group Managing Director at Castle Fine Art. “We are proud to work alongside Netflix and our partners to refresh the mural and celebrate Birmingham’s ongoing connection to a globally recognised story.”

The installation has been delivered in partnership with Central BID Birmingham and Network Rail. To discover more of Jon Jones’ artwork, from cinematic homages spanning the past 70 years to tributes to rock royalty, you can visit Castle Fine Art at The Mailbox.
