It looks like this warm weather is going nowhere. So it’s time to try to cool off by jumping into your nearest outdoor swimming spot. In Birmingham, that’s easier said than done, so you might want to hop on a 1-hour train to Cheltenham for a swim at its incredible, Olympic-sized outdoor pool.
The 50m heated pool (formerly known as Sandford Parks Lido, now simply called the Cheltenham Lido) has served the community for over 90 years (since 1935). Located within four acres of beautiful landscaped gardens, it’s one of the biggest outdoor swimming pools in the whole UK.
What can I do at Cheltenham Lido?

Swimming is obviously the main draw of Cheltenham Lido, with a mix of free and lane swim sessions, while there’s even a dedicated children’s pool (which comes with its own slide and is for under-8s only). But there are also yoga classes, AquaFit sessions, triathlons, dog swims, lifeguard training, and so much more held here.
You can even enjoy the Lido’s very own sauna experience—complete with ice baths and pools for the ultimate recharge. Throughout the summer, the pool will even host quirky events, everything from summer parties to sound baths, cinema screenings and theatre productions.
How much does it cost?

Grab a season ticket (valid until October 9) for £110 for an adult, with an extra £32 if you have a child, which entitles you to unlimited swimming and sauna, and discounted fitness classes. But you can just go for a one-off swim from £8.20 (£5.50 for a child), but you will need to book before you visit, which you can do here.
How do I get there?
Located on the Keynsham Road in Cheltenham (GL53 7PU), the Lido is roughly an hour from Birmingham. Either follow the M5 south if you’re driving, or grab a direct train to Cheltenham from New Street Station—from Cheltenham Spa train station, it’s about a 30-minute walk, or a 20-minute bus ride.
