Birmingham has a wonderful and thriving independent brewery scene, all producing fantastic selections of beer between them. There’s even a craft beer festival celebrating Birmingham’s brilliant beer selection each year. No wonder then that independent Leeds-based brewery, North Brewing Co, has chosen Birmingham as the team’s first venue outside their home county of Yorkshire – and ninth in total.
Setting up in Snow Hill, North will launch a gigantic new taproom in the city centre on November 25. The taproom will have 24 draught lines. This includes 18 lines of keg beer, showcasing North’s ever-evolving range of core brews and specials. To start, North will have two Brum-based specials on the taps. The first, a smooth and refreshing West Coast IPA brewed with Digbeth-based beer legends Dig Brew Co. The second is a tropical, double-dry hopped NEIPA created with Attic Brew Co.
Joining them at the taproom, will be fellow Leeds-based independent foodies, Little Bao Boy. They will be serving up contemporary Asian street food from the kitchen every day. Expect an inventive selection of bao, including the KFB (deep-fried chicken thighs marinated in gochujang buttermilk), and the vegan-friendly Crispy Tofu (tofu deep-fried in togarashi). A small selection of sides will include gyoza and loaded fries, as well as occasional specials.
As well as a wide selection of beers, other tastes will be catered for too. Guests can enjoy a house-made Negroni, a rotating selection of cocktail lines, as well as wine and fizz. A curated line-up of wines by the bottle will also be available, showcasing natural wine producers and innovative techniques, an approach mirrored in North’s selective spirits collection, and seasonal cocktail lists. A variety of no and low-alcohol options will also be available.
North Brewing Co’s Birmingham taproom is located minutes from Snow Hill Station in the city centre. It sits in a modern glass building, creating a light and airy space, seven days a week. At 2,500 sq ft, the taproom will seat 100 covers inside, with space for an additional 30 standing guests, and an extensive covered outdoor seating area that will seat a further 50.
Until it opens, however, Brummies can still enjoy North’s selection of beers by checking out their online store. The North Beer Club is a monthly subscription service that delivers beers from North Brewing Co and an array of other industry icons. To see their range head here.
