As someone who is learning to drive (my test is next month, eek), I know how difficult it can be constantly reading road signs—can I park here, can I drive down there, am I allowed in this lane? But Brummies need to watch where they’re driving more than most, as Birmingham is home to the most-fined street in the UK.
With over 42 million people now holding a full driving licence, an all-time high according to the Driving Instructors Association, the UK’s roads have never been busier. Millions of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) are issued every year, generating hundreds of millions of pounds for local councils.
The most common road fine in the UK is for yellow lines and loading, accounting for 21.9% of all fines issued. But you can be fined for everything from driving in an active bus lane to entering a yellow box junction or parking without a valid permit. What might surprise you, though, is that a handful of streets account for a disproportionate share of PCNs in every city.
To find out exactly where these fine hotspots are, NetVoucherCodes submitted Freedom of Information requests to local councils across the UK, asking them to identify the single street in their area that issued the most PCN tickets in 2025/2026, as well as the income generated from each street.
Beating Liverpool’s Irvine Street/Mount Vernon (74,708 PCNs) and London’s Tottenham Court Road (59,329 PCNs) by quite some margin, Corporation Street in Birmingham is the most-fined street in the UK (based on 200 councils), with 100,985 PCNs issued in 2025/2026. That’s nearly 277 tickets every single day.
Much of the street is restricted to trams, buses, taxis, cyclists, and authorised vehicles, with private cars prohibited in many sections. CCTV, bus gates and illegal parking may account for many of these PCNs. Birmingham City Council couldn’t provide the data for income earned from this single street.
