Having made a name for himself at both DC Comics and Marvel, with such titles as ‘Superman: Red Son’, ‘Civil War’ and ‘Old Man Logan’ before creating his highly successful titles, Mark Millar, legendary comic book writer behind ‘Kick-Ass’ and ‘Kingsman’, is attending his first Comic Con in nearly a decade.
High Vis Festival is hosting its second-ever comic convention in Kings Heath on Saturday, September 19 (10 am to 5 pm) with an exclusive appearance from Mark Millar, who also created ‘Wanted’ and ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’. With a new ‘Kick-Ass’ on the way, there’s never been a better time to meet the legendary Scottish writer.

“After the huge success of last year’s show, I wanted to do something bigger and bolder and really put Kings Heath Comic Con on the map in our second year,” said Olly MacNamee, Kings Heath Comic Con Director. “And you can’t get bigger than Mark Millar, I’d argue. This is big for our comic convention, which really does focus on comics and not TV or film stars, and big for Birmingham. I couldn’t be more excited!”
But he is far from the only big-name appearance at this year’s Kings Heath Comic Con. On top of the return of family favourite Star Wars cosplayers, the 501st Legion UK Garrison, meet plenty of independent comic book creators, artists and traders all under one roof in the Kings Heath All-Saints Community Centre. Plus, there’ll be a special in-person-only charity art auction in support of the Kings Heath Food Bank.
This year’s line-up includes:

2000 AD alumni Phil Winslade (‘Lawless’), Ian Edginton (‘2000 AD’, ‘Scarlet Traces’) and John McCrea (‘The Boys’); Beano artists Laura Howell (‘The Regular Show’) and Hunt Emerson (‘The Beano’, ‘Knockabout’); as well as creators Will Potter (‘Geezer’), Ian Richardson (‘The Judge Dredd Megazine’), Paul McCaffrey (‘Anno Dracula: 1895 – Seven Days in Mayhem’), JaKE Detonator (‘Star Wars: How to Speak Wookie’), Lew Stringer (‘Doctor Wh’o), Sonia Leong (‘Assassin’s Creed: Awakening’) and Kev F Sutherland (‘The Beano’, ‘Romeo & Juliet’).
