You think January was tough? You’ve no idea how bleak February could get. Luckily, the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) is looking to brighten up your winter evenings a little with a magical lantern parade. In its second edition, Light Up Fest brings a joyful community-led celebration, transforming Cannon Hill Park into a river of colour and light.
Light Up Fest returns on Saturday, February 21, 2026, inviting audiences to gather for a magical winter celebration of creativity, community and light. This FREE outdoor event will begin from 4:30pm at MAC and culminate in a glowing lantern procession through Cannon Hill Park at dusk.

“We are delighted to be returning to Midlands Arts Centre with Light Up Fest this February,” said Johnny Autin, Artistic Director of Autin Dance Theatre. “After delivering the lantern procession for the first time in 2024, we learnt so much and are bringing that experience back with fresh ideas and even more ambition in 2026.
“We are super excited to collaborate again with our friends at MAC, working alongside brilliant local community groups to create something special for our local audiences. This project reflects our commitment to community, inclusivity and accessibility, and we cannot wait to share what we have been making together.”

In the lead-up to the festival, you are invited to take part in a series of community lantern-making workshops on the day. Taking place in the Foyle Studio at 11am, 12:30pm and 2pm, with tickets priced at £7.95 per participant, you can add your own creations to the procession—and are welcome to stay as long as you need to finish the lantern.
“Building on the inaugural festival’s success, we can’t wait to shake off the winter blues with you by lighting up the city sky and bringing our communities together,” said Deborah Kermode, MAC CEO & Artistic Director. “This heartwarming celebration is completely free for local families, so don’t miss out on all the magic!”

While the Light Up Fest is free to attend, booking in advance is essential, and tickets are available here.
